News-ish: Boston Mararhon

Glow Run, Mud Runner, Zombie Run, will they ever be the same after today's disaster?

Somewhere near 27,000 runners who took part in the 26.2 mile race were not only a part of the most elite and prestigious marathon in America*, The Boston Marathon, they were also there to witness the horror of this afternoon when 2 bombs exploded 15 seconds from each other about half a mile from the finish line on Boylston Street. Several racers run without their identification or phones, intending to meet family and friends at the finish line. No one would have had any clue of the impending event, nor would anyone even fathom something like this would occur.

At first, some thought it was part of the celebration but then there were people running in panic away from Copley Square and columns of smoke were rising up as high as five stories. A fire at the JFK Library was seen as well, causing speculation that there was a third bomb, thankfully it was only a fire. No additional injuries were reported. There were 2 other bombs found but they were luckily undetonated.

It has been confirmed that 2 have died and 90 people have been admitted to the hospitals for severe injuries. Ages of those injured range from children as young as 2 years old to men and women 60 years or older! They have been admitted for serious injuries such as missing limbs, eardrum damage to lesser extremes of lacerations and debri injuries.

Official believe the explosive devices were small bombs placed in small receptacles, at least one was detonated in a nearby trashcan. Authorities are searching for a Penske rental truck seen leaving the race site. They have already questioned at least person in connection with the explosions, but at this time don't have any leads or suspects. He was seen running away from the explosion, therefore I don't understand WHY he has been singled out. I hope this doesn't become another race issue.

Boston and Washington, D.C.Officials said there was no warning of the tragedy. Mayor Thomas Menino and other public safety leaders are focusing on making sure the area around Copley Square is safe and secure, treating the incident as a deliberate terrorist attack, though there no immediate indication of a reason or a suspects. They have urged people to stay inside and not to congregate in large groups. In major cities across the nation, officials are on high alert and even our own D.C is eerily quiet tonight. President Obama has already made a statement warning the offenders that we will find out who they are and make them feel the wrath of justice. Boston Police want witnesses to contact them with any details at 1-800-494-TIPS. The Mayor’s hotline to find family members can be reached via 617-635-4500.

I for one am SICK of all these violent occurrences! What happened to "Land of the free"? Free to do what? Live in fear of flying, running... living?! America, and NO it's not JUST Obama's fault, has become a world of chaos and death.
*To run in the event requires athletes to qualify by running an earlier marathon under a specific time
